It’s hay fever season again and many among us are already suffering from symptoms like stuffy nose or itchy eyes.
When things get really bad, your doctor might prescribe you antihistamines.
But, there are also other things you can do to help your body better cope with it and reduce its symptoms.
Here are three simple things you can start with:
Skip leftovers
Leftover food, whether you keep it in the fridge or not, is high in histamine and the longer the food has been left standing, the higher its histamine load will be. That can then make your hay fever worse, so it’s best to eat fresh as much as possible, at least during the hay fever season.
Indulge in pineapple
Pineapple contains bromelain, an anti inflammatory enzyme that can also reduce allergic sensitization. It is the highest in pineapple core, so don’t throw it the way the next time you are chopping pineapple for a fruit salad.
Drink nettle tea
Research shows that nettle can help to reduce negative symptoms of hay fever as it inhibits an enzyme that promotes the effects of histamine, and may also block histamine receptors that are most associated with allergic responses.
